What if my child has medical concerns or food allergies?
Our Child Care Director reviews all medical forms and notifies the appropriate staff of any concerns. Any daily medications must be taken at home, or self-administered by the camper under staff supervision. For nut allergies, we maintain a peanut free table in our common area and campers are not allowed to share food.
Who Are the Teachers?
At CVASDC, teachers must have specialized training in elementary education (preferably a college degree), and they must be experienced working with elementary-aged children in a play-based, classroom setting.
Summer Camp teachers must uphold the same standards of high-quality care that apply to all California Teachers by law, and they must share the children’s natural spirit of creativity while managing a diverse group of young learners.
Can my child sit out of an activity if he/she doesn’t want to participate?
Summer Day Camp has an action packed program. Allowing children to continually sit out of activities is not allowed. Of course there will be exceptions such as injury or illness, but parents will be informed if the request to not participate becomes an issue to the counselors and other students. We highly encourage all children to participate in all activities.
Do you provide transportation to and from the camp facility?
No
What is the refund policy if I have to cancel?
If you must cancel enrollment, our refund policy is as follows:
If you cancel over 22 days prior to the start date of the week you are canceling enrollment for, you are entitled to a full refund.
If you cancel 8-22-22 days prior to the start date of the week you are canceling enrollment for, the Nature Center will retain half the full payment for the program.
If you cancel within 8 days of the start date of the week you are canceling enrollment for, or after the program has begun, there will be no refunds.
If your child is sick or exposed to COVID-19 prior to camp, you are entitled to a full refund.
If your child becomes sick or exposed to COVID-19 during camp and has to be sent home, there will be no refunds
How do I contact the camp?
To reach your child's counselor/coordinator, a list of our team will be provided in your welcome packet 1 week before camp begins.
What is the Behavior Policy?
We encourage and reward positive behavior, and redirect misbehavior. Although every attempt is made to teach behavior consistent with our values, the following behaviors will result in the automatic evaluation of a child’s ability to return to the program:
Fighting or exhibiting aggressive behaviors
Running from staff and/or hiding from adults
Any action that requires our staff to physically move or restrain a child.
Acting in a way that requires a counselor to spend an inordinate amount of time with only them, neglecting the needs of other children in their group.
Any other disruptive behaviors that a Director may deem inappropriate
